Motor City Barbecue is owned and operated by Steve Kinkela and located in Detroit, the Motor City of America. About four months ago I found myself looking online for a good recipe for a hot smokey BBQ sauce. Some how I stumbled across the Motor City BBQ website. As someone who enjoys BBQ on just about anything, and spicy hot food, I instantly feel in love with their ingredients and ordered up all four flavors. After two or three days I got the package in the mail, I instantly headed for the fridge to see what I could cook up to try this stuff. Immediately after trying these sauces I was pretty much addicted and there was no going back!
Lets take a look at the four different flavors offered by Motor City Barbecue.
MOTOR CITY BARBECUE "ORIGINAL RECIPE"
Ingredients: tomato concentrate, distilled vinegar, mustard seed, honey, molasses, sugar, brown sugar, salt, pepper, natural hickory smoke flavor, seasonings. NO ADDITIVES OR PRESERVATIVES.
My Thoughts: It's a traditional no heat sauce for the barbecue enthusiasts who want a break from the heat, but still want their mouth to water! It’s a great sauce - Not overly thick and it has a delicious hickory smoke and sweet flavor - and it’s made with great ingredients.

MOTOR CITY BARBECUE "HOLY SMOKES"
Ingredients: tomato concentrate, distilled vinegar, mustard seed, honey, molasses, sugar, brown sugar, salt, pepper, natural hickory smoke flavor, Ghost Chili Peppers NO ADDITIVES OR PRESERVATIVES.
My Thoughts: The signature sauce that started it all. The Holy Smokes blend is a delicious offering from Motor City Barbecue for the barbecue enthusiast who enjoys a little "kick" in their BBQ. This blend shares the same great ingredients as the Original with an addition of Ghost Chili Peppers. The heat index on this sauce is very pleasing and not over powering. Steve rates the heat level on this a 2 out of 10. The honey and smoke flavor combined with the ghost chili pepper really makes this sauce one that everyone can enjoy!

MOTOR CITY BARBECUE "SCORPION"
Ingredients: tomato concentrate, distilled vinegar, mustard seed, garlic powder, honey, molasses, sugar, brown sugar, salt, pepper, natural hickory smoke flavor, Chili Peppers (Trinidad Scorpion Butch T), seasonings. NO ADDITIVES OR PRESERVATIVES.
My Thoughts: With a 5 out of 10 heat scale, you certainly notice the heat index on this sauce is a little higher than the Holy Smokes. But don't be scared, the honey, garlic powder and natural hickory smoke really go together with the hot peppers to make it very enjoyable. In fact this is my favorite sauce!

MOTOR CITY BARBECUE "TRINITY"
Ingredients: tomato concentrate, distilled vinegar, mustard seed, garlic powder, honey, molasses, sugar, brown sugar, salt, pepper, natural hickory smoke flavor, Peppers:Trinidad Scorpion Butch T, Bhut Jolokia & Habanero. ABSOLUTELY NO ADDITIVES OR PRESERVATIVES.
My Thoughts: The hottest in the line-up - TRINITY! If you are a pepper head this is the sauce for you! With a 7 out of 10 heat scale, this sauce will definitely make you sweat while enjoying the rich bbq flavor you will come to enjoy.
I'd also like to share that my mothers thoughts on the Motor City Barbecue. She typically uses Tabasco very sparingly on select foods. Tabasco is her line in the sand for heat and she can barely handle that. She tried the Original, Holy Smokes, and Scorpion and absolutely loves them. The Scorpion is about her limit on the heat level and still enjoy the sauce. Her thoughts on the Trinity was it's hot but it's got the other ingredients to thoroughly blend well with the sauce. And if you're someone who likes really hot sauce and still able to enjoy your food Trinity would be a sauce you'd really enjoy.
